DG Room Acoustic Louvers

Intake and discharge acoustic louvers for diesel generator rooms — sized for radiator and combustion airflow, against a target insertion loss.

CPCB Norms as the design target Sized To radiator + combustion air 150+ Infrastructure projects India + GCC Manufacture & supply

A DG room has to breathe and stay quiet at the same time. KBG engineers and manufactures acoustic louvers for generator room intake and discharge openings, sized to the radiator and combustion air volume the set actually needs while attenuating the noise that would otherwise leave through the opening.

Manufactured in Mumbai and supplied across Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and pan-India — plus the GCC.

Applications

Where DG room acoustic louvers are used

The louver is one element of the DG room acoustic design. It is sized from the airflow the set needs, the static pressure the radiator fan can spare, and the attenuation the opening has to provide.

Basement generator rooms

Ducted intake and discharge where the opening is the only path for air and for noise.

Hospitals & hotels

Standby sets close to occupied rooms and to a boundary with a night-time limit.

Data centre generator yards

Multiple sets on one yard, where simultaneous running decides the design case.

IT parks & commercial towers

Podium and terrace plant rooms with residential neighbours in line of sight.

Industrial plants

Captive power houses where the DG room sits inside a wider site noise budget.

Telecom & utilities

Small unattended sets in mixed-use or silence-zone surroundings.

Why KBG

Why specify KBG DG room acoustic louvers

An acoustic louver trades free area for attenuation: deeper splitters and tighter spacing buy insertion loss and cost pressure drop. Get that trade wrong and the set overheats or the radiator fan cannot push the air through. We size the louver from the radiator and combustion air volume and the static pressure available, then report the insertion loss by octave band rather than as a single figure.

Where the opening alone cannot reach the target we say so, and price the attenuator, the splitter plenum or the enclosure that can. An ISO 9001:2015 manufacturer supplying across India and the GCC, we provide airflow, pressure-drop and attenuation data with the submittal.

DG Room Acoustic Louvers — FAQs

Common questions from consultants, EPC contractors and procurement teams.

How much insertion loss does a DG room acoustic louver give?

It depends on depth, splitter spacing and frequency — which is why a single number is not a specification. A deeper louver with closer splitters attenuates more and passes less air. We report insertion loss by octave band for the selected depth, alongside the pressure drop at your design air volume, so the two can be judged together.

Will an acoustic louver starve the generator of air?

Not if it is sized for the duty. The risk is real, though: an acoustic louver has far less free area than a plain weather louver, and dropping one into an existing opening without recalculating can leave the radiator fan unable to move the design air volume. We size from the radiator and combustion air requirement and the static pressure available.

What noise level does a DG set have to meet in India?

Two different limits apply and they are often confused. The CPCB sets noise norms for the generator set itself, measured close to the machine. Separately, the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 set ambient limits at the boundary by zone and by time of day — night limits are the tighter case. A set can meet its equipment norm and still breach the boundary limit, so both belong in the design brief.

Do I need acoustic louvers on both intake and discharge?

Usually, yes. Noise leaves through whichever opening is untreated, so treating one side and not the other caps what the design can achieve. The two are rarely identical: the discharge side carries the radiator air and hot air, and typically has a different air volume and available static pressure from the intake.

Can you retrofit acoustic louvers into an existing DG room?

Often, within the limits the opening imposes. A retrofit is constrained by the existing aperture, the fan already installed and the structure around it, so the honest first step is measuring what the room does now. Where the opening cannot carry both the airflow and the attenuation, we say what else has to change rather than quoting a louver that will not deliver.
