Chiller Plant Acoustic Louvers

Acoustic louvers and screening for chiller plants — sized for condenser airflow, against the boundary limit the plant has to meet.

An air-cooled chiller moves a great deal of air and radiates noise in every direction. KBG engineers and manufactures acoustic louvers and screening for chiller plant rooms, terraces and condenser yards — sized so the condenser still gets its air while the plant meets the limit at the boundary.

Manufactured in Mumbai and supplied across Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and pan-India — plus the GCC.

Applications

Where chiller plant acoustic louvers are used

Screening a condenser is an airflow problem before it is an acoustic one. Restrict the intake or recirculate warm discharge air and the plant loses capacity on exactly the days it is needed.

Terrace chiller plants

Rooftop plant in line of sight of neighbouring residential floors.

Basement plant rooms

Ducted intake and discharge where the opening carries all the air.

Hospitals

Continuous plant beside wards and near a silence-zone boundary.

Hotels & mixed-use

Plant sharing a podium with guest rooms, terraces and apartments.

Commercial towers

Large central plant with a night-time limit at the property line.

Data centres

Chilled-water plant and condenser yards running around the clock.

Why KBG

Why specify KBG chiller plant acoustic louvers

Condenser fans are low-pressure machines. They have very little static pressure to spare, so an acoustic louver that would be unremarkable on a fan-room opening can cost a chiller real capacity. We start from the condenser air volume and the external static the manufacturer allows, then select a depth and splitter spacing that fits inside it — and check the discharge path so warm air is not drawn straight back into the intake.

Where rain also has to be kept out of the opening we use a weather-louver profile tested to BS EN 13030, so the water-rejection class and the attenuation are both stated rather than assumed. An ISO 9001:2015 manufacturer supplying across India and the GCC.

Chiller Plant Acoustic Louvers — FAQs

Common questions from consultants, EPC contractors and procurement teams.

Will acoustic screening reduce my chiller's capacity?

It can, and that is the thing to engineer around rather than discover at commissioning. Air-cooled condenser fans have very little external static pressure to spare, so added resistance shows up as reduced airflow, higher condensing temperature and lost capacity on the hottest days. We size from the condenser air volume and the allowable external static before choosing a depth.

What is recirculation and why does it matter here?

Recirculation is warm discharge air finding its way back to the intake. Screening makes it more likely, because a barrier that blocks noise also blocks the escape path for hot air. The plant then runs at an elevated inlet temperature and loses capacity even though nothing is technically obstructed. The layout of the screen matters as much as its acoustic rating.

What noise limit does a chiller plant have to meet?

For most projects the governing figure is the ambient limit at the boundary under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, which vary by zone — industrial, commercial, residential and silence zone — and are tighter at night than by day. Night-time operation beside a residential boundary is usually the design case, so that is where we start.

Do acoustic louvers also keep rain out?

Only if the profile is designed for it. Where the opening is exposed we use a weather-louver profile tested to BS EN 13030, which gives a stated water-rejection class at a defined core velocity, so you get both the rain performance and the attenuation on paper rather than one by assumption.

Should I screen the plant or enclose it?

It depends how far the level has to come down and how much space the airflow needs. Screening is lighter, cheaper and less disruptive to airflow, and is often enough where the requirement is modest or the receiver is in one direction. An enclosure achieves more but has to be engineered around the condenser's air path. We will say which one your target actually needs.
